Wines of Merritt Cabernet Franc 2017
Minimal information on the website, but the back label tells me ‘Old vine, single vineyard, 41 days on skins, old French barrique.’ All good things.
Juicy boysenberry and blackcurrant, a little chocolate, bay leaf, spice, and violets. It’s medium-bodied, and treads that fine Franc line of just a little varietal herbal mixed with ripe blue fruits. It’s supple and fine in tannin, feels unforced and pleasantly brambly, dried herb, sour cherry and dark chocolate bitterness on a good long finish. Dusty chalky tannin trims it nicely. It’s a lovely wine. No doubt.
